Ibrahimovic backs PSG as Rooney’s next step

Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that if Wayne Rooney ever leaves Manchester United, he should give serious thought to moving to Paris Saint-Germain, the Daily Mail has reported.

Earlier this week PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi revealed his admiration for the England striker and while he insisted no transfer approach had been made, did hint he could see Rooney wearing PSG colours in the future.

United stressed earlier in the season – after questions were raised over Rooney’s future when he was left out of the starting XI to play Real Madrid in the Champions League – that they had no intention of selling the former Everton player. The Mail adds that the Premier League leaders are considering offering Rooney a contract extension.

Ibrahimovic however feels that if Rooney wants to leave Old Trafford, PSG is the only club for him, pointing to the ambitious plans of the Ligue 1 leader’s owners which tempted the Sweden international to France from Milan.

If he wants to be part of the best project in football then there is only one club to sign for,” Ibrahimovic said. “Only he knows the decision he is going to make in the summer but the project we are trying to build here is clear.

We are not content with being the dominant force in France, we want to be the top club in Europe as well. I can understand why the owners are interested in Rooney – he is in the top 10 of strikers in Europe,” the former Ajax, Juventus, Inter and Barcelona striker added.
