Following an ankle injury which saw Ashley Young withdrawn late on during the defeat to local rivals and Premier League title challengers Manchester City 11 days ago, Sky
It was initially suggested that Young would only miss up to two weeks, however Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed on MUTV that the injury is worse than originally thought and that the winger will be unavailable for selection as United look to secure the title.
“” Ferguson said. “It is a bad blow. We thought two or three weeks but we took him down to a specialist in London on Wednesday and the prognosis is not very good at all. We are going to lose him for the season.”
This is the third injury that Young has picked up this season, restricting him to making 19 appearances in the league for his club. It is still unclear as to whether or not he will be available for international duty when England play against the Republic of Ireland on May 29 and Brazil on June 2.
