PFA award winner Bale plays down talk of Tottenham exit

Gareth Bale has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur, Sky Sports has reported, with the double-PFA award winner insisting he is focused on helping Andre Villas-Boas’ side into the top four of the Premier League.

Bale was on Sunday revealed as both the PFA Player and Young Player of the year, beating Luis Suarez, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie for the senior award and Hazard, Christian Benteke, Romelu Lukaku, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck for the Young Player prize. Bale is the third player to do the double, after Andy Gray and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Tottenham are currently fifth in the league table, two points behind fourth-place Arsenal but with a game in hand, to be played in May against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are third as it stands, three points ahead of the White Hart Lane side.

Bale expects to stay at the Lane for the foreseeable future, despite consistent speculation that La Liga giants Real Madrid have made the Wales international their primary transfer target for the summer. Bale said: “I just take no notice, it’s all speculation, I can’t do anything about it. I just concentrate on my football and play as well as I can and do my best for the team.
