Real Madrid are planning to scupper Liverpool’s hopes of re-signing former Anfield favourite Xabi Alonso by offering the want away star a more lucrative two year deal, reports The
Alonso had previously told the bosses at the Bernabeu that he wanted to leave at the end of the season, which put Liverpool on alert in the hopes of bringing the star back to the North West.
Alonso played for Liverpool for five years, and was a popular figure at the club before leaving for Real in 2009.
Current boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to have been preparing a move for the 31-year-old, but the Spaniard’s fantastic form this season means Madrid will not be wanting to let one of their stars move without a fight.
Alonso’s current deal has one year remaining, and it is believed that the club will offer a new two year extension at an improved rate to ward off any temptation for the player to return to the Premier League.
