Real Madrid to offer player-plus-cash for Tottenham winger Bale

Real Madrid will try and tempt Tottenham Hotspur into selling Gareth Bale by offering the Premier League club winger Jose Callejon in return, the Daily Mirror has reported. Madrid are said to value Callejon at £8m but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has insisted Bale is not for sale – not even for £100m, the newspaper claims.

However, the Wales international is Madrid’s No 1 target for the summer, and the Spanish club hope to use the partnership set up between the two teams last summer in the wake of Luka Modric’s move from White Hart Lane to the Santiago Bernabeu to engineer the transfer.

The 26-year-old Callejon has made few appearances for Madrid, struggling to break into the first team of a squad that offers the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria as competition, and is usually benched for the most important games. Callejon would welcome a move to the Premier League, the newspaper adds.

But Tottenham believe they will keep hold of Bale, with the former Southampton player not looking to leave the club and Spurs potentially in a position to offer Bale Champions League football next season, having beaten deposed champions Manchester City on Sunday to breathe new life into their top four push.
