Rooney rejects talk of PSG move and wants to extend Man Utd stay

Wayne Rooney has insisted there is no deal in place between himself and Paris Saint-Germain, the Daily Mail has reported, and instead the Manchester United striker wants to agree a new contract with the Premier League leaders.

It had been reported that Rooney had already agreed a transfer to the oil-rich Ligue 1 club after speculation about his future at Old Trafford, but the England international is said to have rejected the idea that he is bound for France.

Rooney has reportedly told friends that not only does he have no intention of leaving United, but he wants to extend his contract with the club. His current deal has two years left to run as of this summer.

The Mail says United would be open to a new contract for Rooney but could push for the former Everton forward to take a pay cut from his current £200,000 weekly wage – perhaps centring the deal on performance-related bonuses that could see him top his existing earnings, but from a lower guaranteed base pay.

It was speculated that Rooney was heading out of United after he was dropped for the Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Real Madrid.
