Swansea City are lining up a loan bid for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who has said he wants to spend another year away from Stamford Bridge rather than be used as back-up to the club’s other strikers, the
Lukaku added that he would prefer to play for a team in European competition and West Bromwich Albion, with whom Lukaku has spent the season, appear unlikely to make a late surge into the Europa League.
Swansea, however, are guaranteed a place in Europe by virtue of their success in the Capital One Cup, with manager Michael Laudrup in the market for some goal scoring support for Michu, who is the only Swans player to reach a double figure goal tally this season. Lukaku has scored 13 times for West Brom, including netting against Swansea in a 3-1 Baggies defeat in November and in Albion’s 2-1 win over Swansea in March.
The Mirror adds that Lukaku, an £18m 2011 signing from Anderlecht, wants to follow the example of compatriot Thibaut Courtois, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, rather than remain at Chelsea as Petr Cech’s understudy.
