Leighton Baines has brushed off claims that Everton’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend is make-or-break for the club’s Champions League hopes, according to Sky
The Toffees defender has helped his side to within four points of the top four in the Premier League, with Spurs six points ahead of David Moyes’ men. But the left-back says Sunday’s fixture won’t decide anything with eight matches still to go this season.
Baines said: “It’s a big game but there are plenty more after that and it won’t be decided by next weekend. We are the ones who are trailing and that probably means we are the least favourite of the teams but we are fighters.
“We won’t stop believing and we will give everything we have got, as we did last week (against Manchester City) and Saturday (against Stoke).
“If we can win a few more games and get close to the end of the season, that’s where we want to be.”
Everton and Tottenham are currently separated in the league table by Chelsea and Arsenal, who are four and two points ahead of Baines’ side, respectively.
