Under pressure Pulis receives backing from Stoke owner

Stoke City owner Peter Coates will not follow the lead of other chairman in the Premier League and wield the axe, instead coming out in support for his beleaguered manager Tony Pulis. As reported by the Daily Telegraph, the pair met after Stoke’s latest setback on Saturday, a 3-1 home defeat to relegation rivals Aston Villa.

Coates will visit Pulis at the Potters’ training ground on Tuesday to drum up support for both the Welshman and the under pressure players ahead of Manchester United’s visit to the previous fortress that was the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.

Stoke climbed as high as seventh on Boxing Day after an impressive home victory over Liverpool, but their form has faded badly since. They have collected just five Premier League points since the turn of the year, with their last win coming at home to Reading in mid-February.

With only 28 league goals all term, it is clear where the main problem is, and time is running out to avoid a shock slide back into the Championship.
