Van Persie relishes first-ever Premier League title

Robin van Persie has revealed his delight at securing his first Premier League title after hitting a hat-trick in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday evening, BBC Sport has reported.

Van Persie moved to Old Trafford last summer after eight years at Arsenal in which he failed to lift the title, winning only the FA Cup in 2005 – beating United on penalties. But after his contract with the Gunners entered its final year and van Persie declined to sign a new one, Arsenal sold the Netherlands international to United for £24m.

The 29-year-old’s treble took him to 24 league goals for the season, short of the 30 he netted in his final campaign with Arsenal but ahead of nearest top-scorer challenger Luis Suarez, with van Persie claiming 28 goals for the year overall, in all competitions.

He said: “I had to wait so long for my first title. It is a great feeling.

This is a fantastic team and fantastic players. It is a championship for every single one of them. The staff, the managers, the physios. This is our 20th title, it is deserved.
