Arsene Wenger has revealed his belief that Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla is underappreciated in the Premier League, claiming that the Spain international should have been part of the division’s team of the year, ESPN
Cazorla enjoyed a strong start to his career in English football and while his form has dipped in the latter part of the season, ESPN claims, Wenger insists the former Malaga player deserves more praise than he has received thus far.
“I think he is a bit of an under-rated player in the Premier League,” Wenger said. “When you think he was not in the team of the season picked by the players, it’s quite harsh. Personally I would have put him in there.
“When you look at his quality, that is of course outstanding, but also his attitude and work rate for the team. He is one of the players who has been absolutely outstanding this season, the manager continued.
Cazorla has played 48 games for the Gunners this season, scoring 12 goals, helping Arsenal to fourth place in the Premier League table with a game to play. Arsenal must better the result of North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday if they are to seal a place in the Champions League for next season, with Wenger’s men travelling to Newcastle while Spurs host Sunderland.
