Arsenal are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund right-back Luksaz Piszczek if Bacary Sagna leaves the Premier League club this summer, the
Piszczek, a Poland international, has been on the Gunners’ radar for some time, the newspaper adds, with Arsene Wenger having his scouts watch the 27-year-old on a regular basis.
Sagna could leave the Emirates Stadium this summer as he enters the final year of his contract and his age means Arsenal are reluctant to offer more than a one-year extension to his terms. There is also the question of Sagna’s fitness, after the France international suffered two broken legs in recent years.
The Telegraph claims that Wenger would prefer to keep Sagna at the club but might not be able to if Paris Saint-Germain firm up their interest with an offer. Inter are also said to have monitored Sagna’s situation but his decline in form and history of injuries could have lessened his value.
With Piszczek having three years remaining on his Dortmund contract he is likely to cost in the region of £12m, with an Arsenal offer only forthcoming should Sagna depart. Right-back is not a priority position for Wenger this summer, with a striker – possibly Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic – top of the manager’s wanted list.
