Rafa Benitez has dropped a massive hint that Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea is on the cards, reports the Daily
In a revealing Press conference yesterday the Spaniard re-iterated that he will leave Stamford Bridge after this season and gave a clear indication of who he thinks his successor will be.
Benitez said: “Next year there will be a new manager. I think everybody knows who will be here…”
Mourinho, who is currently negotiating his exit from Spanish giants Real Madrid, has expressed a desire to return to Stamford Bridge, where he remains an idolised figure from his previous stint as Chelsea manager. And The Star understands he has a £10m get-out clause in his contract at Madrid which Chelsea will activate in the summer.
Benitez, who took the reins at Chelsea in November following the surprise sacking of Roberto di Matteo, has expressed that he will be sorry to leave at the end of the season.
“When you are in a team and enjoy working with players and staff who are really good, and you have really good relationships with them, it’s always sad when you have to go,” he said.
Despite the fierce reception he has received from sections of the Chelsea fan-base, the Blues have had a good spell under Benitez reaching a Europa League final and in a strong position for Champions League football next season.
