Carrick recognised as Player of the Year by Man Utd teammates

Michael Carrick has been named Player’s Player of the Year at Premier League champions Manchester United, the Daily Mail has reported, ahead of the prolific Robin van Persie.

Van Persie was still however a double award winner, being named the Fans’ Player of the Year and winning the Goal of the Season prize, for his spectacular second strike against Aston Villa in the game that clinched the title for the Red Devils and in which the ex-Arsenal forward netted a hat-trick.

Carrick was recognised by his teammates for his contribution to United’s runaway title win in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge. United currently stand 10 points clear of near neighbours and former champions Manchester City, having won 28 of their 37 league games so far.

Van Persie has claimed 29 goals in his debut season at Old Trafford, 25 of them coming in the league as he picked up his first league winner’s medal, with Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney trailing the Dutchman in the scoring charts on 17 and 16 goals respectively.
