Mourinho won five trophies in during his first three year spell at Stamford Bridge, including two Premier League titles, and retiring Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson also recently said that the Blues would once again prove a true threat if Mourinho were to return to the fans who adore him.
The 50-year-old recently announced his departure from Real Madrid, meaning he appears to be a free agent at a time when Chelsea are looking to replace outgoing boss Rafa Benitez, who has already been confirmed as the new manager of Italian outfit Napoli.
Cech, who was signed by Claudio Ranieri but arrived at the club at the same time as Mourinho in 2004, said: “In football, you never say never and anything can happen. He’s a great manager and I think everybody remembers how successful we were with him as the manager.
“If he can reproduce that again, I think everything will be fantastic. Every manager might change slightly during the years, because they gain more experience and work with different people and different teams.
“He might come with a slightly different way than last time, so let’s see. But it will be great to see him back and hopefully he can reproduce the success we had under him.”
Cech, who has now played almost 300 games for the Blues, continued: “The footprint he made in the whole of English football, that is what he’s about. Also the success he brought to our club. He was the manager who won the first title for the club in 55 years and I would say that a new era began during his time. So this is why I think it’s important.
“He was also very popular with the media in England and I think they are very excited about him coming back.”
