Chelsea’s hopes of signing Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao have been hit by reports from the
The principality side, who have clinched promotion from the second tier of French football and back to Ligue 1, are funded by Russian tycoon Dmitry Rybolovlev, and are willing to offer the 27-year-old Falcao a wage packet of £8.2m per year, after tax. That’s on top of the £50m fee it will cost to prise Falcao away from Atletico.
Rybolovlev is said to be targeting the newly-crowned champions Paris Saint-Germain in the hope of establishing Monaco as PSG’s main rivals for success in the foreseeable future in French football. Rybolovlev is ranked by Forbes magazine as the 199th richest person in the world and took over at Monaco in December 2011. The 2004 Champions League finalists had been relegated earlier that year.
Falcao’s contract is expected to have a clause that allows him to leave the club after a single season, which the Mail suggests Falcao will use to move to Atletico’s rivals Real Madrid.
