Chelsea v FC Basel – Europa League preview and team news

Chelsea will be hugely confident of securing their place in a maiden Europa League final after taking a 2-1 lead away from FC Basel in the first leg a week ago.

Those two away goals scored by Victor Moses and David Luiz should all but end the hopes of the Swiss outfit progressing from the second leg at Stamford Bridge, where no visiting team has won a European tie since April 2011.

Rafael Benitez will continue his squad rotation policy as he looks to juggle Europa League progress with a fight to finish in the top four. One certain absentee is the suspended Ashley Cole, who will be replaced by Ryan Bertrand.

Elsewhere, John Terry, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic appear to be fighting for the two central-defensive positions while it remains to be seen whether David Luiz will continue in his deep-lying central-midfield role or move back into defence to make way for Ramires or John Obi Mikel. Up front, Victor Moses should return while Demba Ba’s ineligibility means Fernando Torres is certain to start.

The visitors are expected to make next-to-no changes from the side that were only defeated at home in the first leg courtesy of a late Luiz free-kick.

Kay Voser is the only player currently ruled out due to injury while central-defender Aleksandar Dragovic is suspended.
