Mousa Dembele believes Tottenham Hotspur can challenge for the Premier League title next season, Sky
Spurs ended the season in fifth place, missing out on Champions League football by a point against local rivals Arsenal, and were 17 points back on champions Manchester United – that’s despite being one of only three teams – Manchester City and Chelsea the others – to beat United at Old Trafford.
Dembele said: “I’m never shy to say that I believe in everything. So if we start well next year, you never know. Maybe if some good players come in, then it’s a different season. There’s a chance, why not?”
Tottenham may have been the first team to beat United on their own patch but they also dropped points against Wigan Athletic, who were relegated, and mid-table Norwich City, failing to win in two attempts against either side. Dembele pointed to those results as the difference between Europa League and a title challenge.
“We dropped a lot of points against the bottom teams. Against the good teams we can make the difference, Dembele said. “So maybe we have to be aware next year as well, these are the games for us that are very difficult – the small games,” claiming that the difference between Spurs and the likes of United is that United kill off those small games.
