Everton owner Bill Kenwright has held talks with Ralf Rangnick, former manager of Bundesliga side Schalke, over succeeding David Moyes at Goodison Park, the
Rangnick, currently sporting director at Red Bull Salzbug and a fluent English speaker from his time attending Sussex University, travelled to London to meet with Kenwright on Wednesday, the newspaper adds. He has previously been linked with positions at West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur and took Schalke into the Champions League semi-finals in 2011.
Departing Wigan manager Roberto Martinez had been the favourite to replace Moyes, who has taken over at Manchester United following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, but Rangnick is now thought to be in the frame as well.
Moyes left Everton after more than a decade in charge, being appointed from Preston North End in March 2002 to succeed Walter Smith. His final season as Everton boss saw the team finish in sixth place.
