Ferguson wants to tempt big name to Man Utd

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will seek a big-name signing this summer as he attempts to retain the Premier League title, says the Sunday Mirror.

The Red Devils breezed to their 20th top-flight title this season and are currently 13 points ahead of nearest rivals Manchester City.

But Ferguson wants to strengthen his squad and claims United’s American owners will give him the backing to make a marquee signing, if he chooses to.

Ferguson said: “Everything is in place for a big signing. I think that the Glazers have been great. Whenever I have asked, they have delivered.

When I spoke about value in the market a while back, I was talking about young, developing players. Maybe there has been a wind of change and I could go for a really top player now.

United are said to be keeping tabs on a number of Europe’s most sought-after stars, including Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale.

As well as bringing a star man, Ferguson has allegedly already identified the need to bring in new players at centre back, left back and central midfield.
