Flamengo have poured cold water on reports which suggested that they were interested in signing Premier League duo Rio Ferdinand and Julio Cesar this summer, says Sky
England international Ferdinand is out of contract at Manchester United this summer, while goalkeeper Julio Cesar is expected to leave Queens Park Rangers after the club were relegated from the Premier League.
But the Brazilian giants, who are the most popular club in the country with around 35 million fans, have rubbished the rumours.
The club’s director of football Paulo Pelaipe said: “I haven’t talked to anybody about it [Ferdinand], and the board haven’t told me anything on the subject.”
Meanwhile, vice-president Wallim Vasconcellos added: “Julio Cesar is a great goalkeeper and could play for any team, but he is not one of our concerns right now.”
Ferdinand, 34, has confirmed his desire to stay on at Old Trafford under new manager David Moyes but QPR boss Harry Redknapp has already admitted that Cesar, 33, will depart Loftus Road at the end of the season.
