Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been placed on high alert after Real Madrid revealed striker Gonzalo Higuain will leave the club in the summer, according to the
The Argentinean frontman has been in and out of the Los Merengues starting line-up this season, as he and Karim Benzema compete for the role of lone striker.
And Real have announced that they will cash in on the former River Plate man in the summer to make way for a new goalscorer.
The clubs’ general manager Jose Angel Sanchez said: “In a great club like Real, we believe we need two number nines of a high level. We have Benzema and Higuain, Higuain will leave, Benzema will stay and two others will come.”
Both Spurs and the Gunners will be attracted by the availability of such a world-class poacher, with Higuain having still managed to score 13 goals in La Liga this year.
Andre Villas-Boas’ side attempted to sign him last summer but couldn’t agree a deal, leaving them with only two first team strikers in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Higuain, who has scored 19 times for his country, could also catch the eye of Arsene Wenger, whose team are also short in firepower.
