Jovetic price tag a stumbling block to Arsenal move

Arsenal could miss out of Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic after the Gunners baulked at paying the Serie A club’s £25m valuation, the Daily Mail has reported. Fiorentina are reluctant to budge from their asking price, allowing Juventus to move ahead of Arsene Wenger’s side in the race for the Montenegro international.

Wenger had made Jovetic his primary transfer target for the summer and negotiations between the clubs started weeks ago but little progress has been made, the newspaper claims. Arsenal are said to be willing to go no higher than £20m for the 23-year-old, while Fiorentina are reluctant to sell their star player to fierce rivals Juve – but could reconsider if Juventus meet their price despite uproar in the past when Fiorentina consented to the sale of Roberto Baggio to Juventus.

Jovetic moved to the Viola in 2008, leaving first club Partizan Belgrade after becoming the youngest player to captain the Serbians, at the age of 18. He has gone on to score 39 goals in 133 games for Fiorentina and became one of Montenegro’s first-ever internationals when he lined up for the country’s inaugural game against Hungary in March 2007.
