Manchester United have insisted Wayne Rooney is not for sale despite Sky
Rooney is believed to have had detailed discussions about his future with the retiring Sir Alex Ferguson a fortnight ago, and indicated he would like to go elsewhere and explore new challenges in his career.
However, United have insisted today; “Wayne Rooney is not for sale.”
It is the second time in three seasons that the 27-year-old has indicated his desire to leave. In October 2010, he stunned the football world by stating his intention to go elsewhere, before a sudden change of heart led to a new five-year contract, earning more than £200,000 a week.
Rooney’s future at the Theatre of Dreams has been questioned since he was benched for United’s Champions League exit to Real Madrid in March.
Rooney’s former manager at Everton, David Moyes is expected to be confirmed as Ferguson’s successor in the coming days. Some bookmakers have suspended their odds on the Scot ending his 11-year association with the Toffees to head to the Red Devils.
