Old Trafford will welcome Sir Alex Ferguson for the last time as Manchester United manager today, as the Premier League champions welcome Swansea.
Ferguson announced his retirement as manager at United this week, bringing an end to a 26-year spell of unprecedented success, and the Scot is sure to expect a great ovation from home and away fans. With Ferguson’s high expectations, the players are sure to be required to bounce-back from their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend.
Swansea are celebrating a comfortable Premier League season, with their safety well assured, and a Carling Cup victory in Michael Laudrup’s first season at the South Wales club. The Swans ended a run of seven games without a win last week, when they defeated Wigan at the DW Stadium.
Man Utd may decide to field Paul Scholes, either from the bench of in a starting role, with the ex-England international also retiring, and playing at Old Trafford for the last time. Rafael is suspended following his sending off against Chelsea, and many will watch to see if Wayne Rooney starts, after rumours of a pending Man Utd exit.
Swansea will wait on the fitness of star striker Michu, who has been out with a hamstring injury. Angel Rangel is out with a calf injury, while ‘keeper Michel Vorm is also out.
