Chilean Manuel Pellegrini has been speculated hugely with the Manchester City post in recent weeks, and as the Daily
In an interview with the Spanish radio station Onda Cero on Wednesday, Pellegrini revealed he has a verbal agreement to take over at the Citizens.
He said: “I have a commitment to make Manchester City my priority. I have a verbal agreement with them and I hope it is carried out.
“I am motivated a great deal by a project as exciting as the one at Malaga. To be able to build up a club, this is as important as going to an institution where you will be able to win titles.”
Pellegrini confirmed last week he would be leaving Malaga at the end of the season. He has done a brilliant job on the Costa del Sol, especially this season when the true extent of their financial meltdown was exposed.
Malaga reached the last eight of the UEFA Champions League in their debut campaign in the competition, and look set for another top six finish in La Liga. However, they won’t be allowed into UEFA competition next season due to financial irregularities.
It is likely the appointment will not impress City supporters, who are still reeling from Roberto Mancini’s departure following a campaign without any silverware.
