The overwhelming majority of Real Madrid fans would prefer to see Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale at the Santiago Bernabeu over Neymar, revealed a poll in Spanish sports paper AS,
Both Bale and the young Santos starlet have been linked with the Spanish club, who are expected to spend the summer rebuilding their squad. And over 60,000 Internet users plumped for the 23-year-old Wales international ahead of the Brazilian striker in the poll in a landslide win, Bale recording 93% of votes cast.
Bale was named both the PFA Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Player of the Year after another prolific season at White Hart Lane, and his form has led to widened speculation linking him with European giants including Barcelona and Manchester United in recent times. However, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas insists that there is no reason to believe the striker is going anywhere.
“He is very, very driven to be successful,” said the Portuguese boss. “But you can see that he is enjoying his football and all of the indications that I have are that he will continue.”
Neymar has also been previously linked with Barcelona but reports are that Madrid would be keen on making a move, with Santos believed to be willing to sell this summer to a club that agrees to pay his 70 million Euros release clause.
