Liverpool scouts will take a look at the 23-year-old when he faces Marseilles this weekend, and Abdennour is thought to tick all of Rodgers’ boxes as the former Swansea boss looks to consolidate his defence next season.
The Tunisian international has also attracted interest from Spanish giants Barcelona, but is thought to favour a move to the Premier League and is believed to be preparing to up his game when Kop scouts visit to convince them that he is their man for the job.
Rodgers believes that Liverpool could take advantage of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and use the transition at Old Trafford as a chance to bridge the gap between the long-term rivals.
He wants Liverpool chiefs to provide him with a transfer kitty capable of sustaining a challenge towards the top of the league next season, and it is believed he has already earmarked around £5m of the funds towards bringing Abdennour to Anfield.
