Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that striker Wayne Rooney has submitted
Rooney was left out of the matchday squad for United’s 2-1 victory over Swansea, and received a mixed reception from the Reds fans when collecting his Premier League medal, and Ferguson revealed in an interview with BBC Sport after the game that recent reports in the media were accurate:
“We have refused it. I think he should go away and think it over again”, Ferguson said. “He wasn’t happy about being taken off a few times this season but a Wayne Rooney in top form wouldn’t be taken off.”
On whether the player would be there next season, he declared: “It’s not my decision now.”
Rooney, 27, has played a more withdrawn role in the side, in attacking midfield, and was left out of the starting line-up in the Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid. The England striker has started 22 league games, scoring 12 goals.
