And Atletico are preparing to test the waters at Anfield with a big money bid which is peculiarly made possible by money from the Azerbaijani government, who have a multi-million shirt sponsorship deal with the La Liga side.
It is believed that the oil-rich state could help to pay the wages of Suarez by injecting around 6million Euros towards his salary each year.
The transfer fee itself is likely to be funded by the sale of prolific striker Falcao, who Atletico are resigned to losing this summer, possibly to Chelsea.
Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool, along with Suarez himself, have maintained that the forward will still be on Merseyside next year.
But the absence of European football for the Reds next season, coupled with his current suspension, could mean Suarez is tempted by the lure of Champions League football at Vicente Calderon.
