Suarez ban right says Ivanovic

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has revealed his take on the infamous Luis Suarez bite, claiming he did accept his apology, but that the 10 game suspension for the Uruguayan is fair.

Ivanovic appeared surprised after the bite to his elbow, but showed restraint before explaining what had happened to the match officials. He has however rubbished talk of rejecting Suarez’s apology.

The Serbian revealed: “When it happened I was surprised and angry. But after the game I calmed down, and all was forgotten. We spoke on the phone, I accepted the apology, the police did not press charges.”

Suarez will now miss the rest of the season, and a significant part of the next year too, as a result of his second biting incident of his career. Ivanovic suggests that the Liverpool striker’s punishment is appropriate:

“They took into account his past excesses and previous punishments. They added everything up and reached seven games, plus the three he would have had for being sent off.”

Ivanovic, 29, is now in his fifth season with the Blues, and has his highest goal scoring tally of his career, netting five league goals so far this term.
