Terry has a year remaining on his current contract and wants to sign a new one, with Mourinho likely to have the deciding vote. Terry’s fellow veteran teammates, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard, faced anxious waits before their new deals were on the table from the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, as part of Chelsea’s plan to lower the average age of the squad.

“I know JT will want to stay, he’s said he’d love to stay at Chelsea. He feels the same as me,” Lampard said earlier in May.
“Why play anywhere else when you love the club you’re at? JT’s the captain of the club and does a brilliant job. At the start of next season, I think that’s when the club will take a view on it. I know what my view would be.”
