Tottenham Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas has been subject to an approach from Serie A giants Napoli, says Metro.
When speaking to Portuguese newspaper DN, Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed they had contacted Tottenham to speak to Villas-Boas. He said: “Yes. There is a very tempting argument to hire a young coach here.”
This would indicate that Rafael Benitez is not a contender for the vacancy, despite his success with Chelsea this season.
It is unclear whether Spurs will respond or allow permission for Villas-Boas to speak to Napoli, despite not getting Champions League football for the third successive campaign. The lure of top club football could be the deciding factor in the thinking of the 35-year-old.
Whoever takes the hotseat will have a job to keep Edinson Cavani, with the prudent finisher being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City.
