Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao is expected to move to England, says Goal.com.
Damiao made a big impression at last summer’s Olympic Games; finishing top goalscorer with six goals on Brazil’s run to the final in the men’s football tournament.
Spurs failed with a late £16m bid to acquire the 23-year-old’s services on transfer deadline day, but could be about to get one of their long-term targets.
Luigi also dismissed interest from Napoli, after Damiao’s agent was quoted as saying a deal was almost done with the Serie A heavyweights.
Luigi told tuttomercatoweb.com: “If a club want a player, they must talk to the president of the club at which that particular player plays and not just deal with the agent – that is not correct behaviour.
“Recently we talked with Tottenham. Leandro is very likely to play games in England in the coming year. On the other hand, we can exclude Napoli.”
Damiao has found the net 28 times for Internacional in 72 games, an impressive strike rate of one per two matches.
Injury niggles to Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor’s inconsistent form has hamstrung Tottenham’s strikeforce, and it could mean they miss out on Champions League qualification for the second successive campaign.
The Londoners face a home match with Southampton on Saturday.
