Tottenham Hotspur will clinch the signing of Barcelona striker David Villa despite facing competition for the Spain international from north London rivals Arsenal, the
Villa, 31, is expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer with Barcelona keen to add new faces to their squad. Villa is also desirous of more regular playing time ahead of next year’s World Cup, with a place in the XI of the presumptive La Liga champions far from guaranteed.
The transfer fee could prove a sticking point, however, with the Spanish side valuing Villa at around £12m but Spurs only prepared to offer £7m. But Tottenham’s interest is long-standing, with their first enquiry over the availability of Villa coming in January, at the same time Arsenal made their interest known.
Villa is not the only La Liga player interesting Tottenham Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas, however, with Sevilla’s Alberto Botia also on the Portuguese’s radar. Botia, a graduate of the Barcelona academy, is being lined up to replace William Gallas, with Steven Caulker also possibly departing White Hart Lane.
