Arsenal winger Gervinho could be set for a return to French football as the
The Ligue 1 club’s assistant manager, Franck Passi, confirmed the former Lille player is one of Marseille’s transfer targets for this summer. He added: “This is a profile that interests us, yes. We want flank players, with dribbling, passing and scoring and Gervinho has this profile.”
Gervinho has managed only 11 goals in his two years with the Gunners following a move from Lille in the summer of 2011. Manager Arsene Wenger could sanction the 26-year-old’s departure in an effort to clear the decks for a number of new arrivals, as he prepares to spend the reported £70m that has been made available for new signings.
Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic are two of the names mentioned with a move to the Emirates Stadium – and either would severely limit Gervinho’s playing time which already faces a reduction due to the progression of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the newspaper claims.
Gervinho has thus far made 63 appearances for Wenger’s side, 26 coming last season, in which he scored seven times.
