Chelsea appear to have beaten off Europe’s elite clubs to Napoli striker Edinson Cavani after the two sides agreed in principle to a £49.3m price tag for the 26-year-old.
“We have received news in the office from a very reliable source that Napoli have sealed a deal with Chelsea for Cavani’s sale,” the radio station confirmed.
“(Napoli president) Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club will pick up around €58m (£49.3m), a slight discount on the buy-out clause.”
Although the fee is below Cavani’s £53m release clause it would nevertheless give new boss Rafael Benitez a hefty arsenal to spend on restructuring his Napoli side ahead of the new season.
Chelsea were in contention with Manchester City for the striker, who finished this season top scorer in Serie A with 29 goals and is known to want a new challenge outside Italy.
