Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has installed Sevilla’s £10m rated defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia as his latest summer transfer target, according to the Independent.
The Blues are said to have scouted the French U-20 international extensively over the course of last season, his first season at the Spanish club, where he was a virtual ever-present.
Chelsea see that signing Kondogbia would strengthen an area of the team which already comprises Jon Obi Mikel, Michael Essien and Oriol Romeu, who have filled this position since Claude Makelele left in 2008. While Mikel has been a regular in the side, he grew increasingly out of favour towards the end of last season, and Essien and Romeu have both had injury problems.
The newspaper adds that Kondogbia, who has made 31 league appearances for Sevilla, is also a target for Real Madrid amongst other leading European clubs. It appears that if Mourinho wants Kondogbia to become his second summer acquisition after Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle, he will need to move quickly.
