Chelsea’s Mikel to leave for Galatasaray

Defensive midfielder Jon Obi Mikel has stated that he is to leave Chelsea and move to Galatasaray, something which has been the subject of mounting speculation over recent weeks, according to Turkish daily Sabah.

The Nigerian, currently away at the Confederations Cup in Brazil, has suggested that he wants a new challenge, after spending seven years with the Blues:

‘I’m still only 26 and it’s great to receive an offer from a club [Galatasaray] playing Champions League football and doing well in the competition.’

Galatasaray have showcased their ambition in the past year, with the signings of Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba, along with reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, losing out on aggregate to Real Madrid.

Returning Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who initially brought him to the club back in 2006, is looking to make some changes to the squad, and is thought to have told Mikel that he is surplus to requirements now, something which led to the former Lyn Oslo youngster revealing that he is to move on this summer.
