Friedel determined to play on

Veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel has confirmed he has no plans to retire from football, despite being the oldest player in the Premier League.

The goalkeeper, 42, saw his first-team slot at Tottenham threatened last season with the arrival of Hugo Lloris yet remains committed to Spurs after recently signing a new contract to stay at White Hart Lane until 2014.

Tottenham face a challenging season ahead as Andre Villas-Boas targets Champions League qualification and, as Friedel told Goal.com, the stopper may find games tough to come by next term:

“At 42 years of age, the team comes first. Me and Hugo have a very good relationship… He’s a really nice guy and a really good goalkeeper. I’m going to play until my body says I can’t do it anymore or the club doesn’t want me.”

Lloris is expected to take the reins next season as the French starter prepares for the 2014 World Cup and has now a season of Premier League experience under his belt.
