Higuain’s Arsenal move takes a step closer

The brother of Gonzalo Higuain has admitted a move to Arsenal is looking more and more likely after Juventus completed a deal for Carlos Tevez.

Higuain had been a prime target for the two-time winners of the European Cup, but ended up wrapping up a deal for Tevez on Wednesday.

Tevez will cost the club around £12m, ending his seven-year spell on these shores and a fairly fiery time especially at Manchester City.

Higuain is set therefore to head to the Emirates for a club record fee of £22m, according to the Daily Mail. Arsene Wenger is ready to offer the 25-year-old wages of upto £150,000 a week.

Higuain’s brother, Nicolas told an Italian website: “If Tevez joins Juve, is Higuain closer to Arsenal? I think so.

“Juventus is a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them. Napoli are a strong team. Having said that, I cannot deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal.”

Argentine international Higuain has been at Real Madrid since 2007 after joining from River Plate and has a tremendous goalscoring record, which will excite Gunners supporters.

It has excited journalist and often spoken critic of Wenger, Piers Morgan. Two nights ago, he said on Twitter: “Arsenal fans who don’t rate Higuain are ridiculous. If we get him, he has the best scoring record of any player we’ve ever signed. #machine”

Despite the best efforts of Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski last season, Arsenal’s top scorer actually came from midfield. Theo Walcott, often deployed as a winger, struck 14 times in the league and 21 goals in all competitions.
