Lee returns to Southampton after turning down Tokyo move

Southampton striker Tadanari Lee has turned down the opportunity to join FC Tokyo on a permanent basis after spending last year on loan at the club.

Sky Sports are reporting that the 27-year-old striker has rejected the chance to sign a contract with the J-League outfit after being loaned to the club in February 2013.

Lee made 13 appearances for Tokyo during his five month spell with the club, though he only managed to start in four. However the Japan international was wanted by the club after he found the net four times during his loan period. Lee has said of the snub: “I felt like I was playing in fits and starts and thought a different challenge would be better for me.

However it would seem that Lee does not feature in the long-term future plans of Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino, and he has made just seven appearances for the club since his move from Sanfrecce Hiroshima in January 2012, scoring one goal in the club’s 4-1 FA Cup win against Stevenage in August.
