Liverpool are close to completing a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the BBC.
The attacking midfielder netted an impressive 25 league goals for the Ukrainian side this season, from just 29 appearances, and has picked up three titles with Shakhtar.
Mkhitaryan is expected to play just behind the strikers, creating space for forwards and wingers, while also posing a threat to goal himself.
Liverpool’s attacking midfield options at present include captain Steven Gerrard, Jonjo Shelvey, Jordan Henderson and January signing Philippe Coutinho.
Meanwhile, striker Luis Suarez has told local media at the Confederations Cup that “A player always aspires to the top, and [Real] Madrid are always one of the highest ambitions for any footballer”, continuing his long-running flirtations with the Spanish giants.
