Liverpool to tell Suarez to stop talking about Real Madrid or issue a transfer request

Liverpool want to put an end to speculation surrounding the future of Luis Suarez, the Daily Mirror has reported, and will tell the Uruguay striker to either stop discussing how much he wants to play for Real Madrid and focus on his current club, or confirm he wants to leave with an official transfer request.

Suarez has spoken regularly of his desire to leave English football and head to La Liga but as yet, has not officially told his current employers he wants to move on to pastures new. The former Ajax forward is on international duty with Uruguay at the Confederations Cup and has made little effort to hide his intention to leave Anfield, with Madrid publically confirmed as his preferred destination.

But Madrid have not reciprocated with an offer for the controversial front man, currently in the middle of a 10-game domestic ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. It is the second incidence of biting to involve Suarez – he was suspended from Dutch football at the time he joined Liverpool, in January 2011, for biting PSV Eindhoven’s Otman Bakkal.

Liverpool are said to have made it clear that they do not want Suarez to leave but have also indicated that if he is to depart, he must to do by the time the club travel to Australia and Asia for a pre-season tour. Manager Brendan Rodgers is understood to be keen to avoid losing such a crucial player late in the transfer window, which would leave the manager unable to replace his top scorer.
