Manchester City are to return to their pursuit of Borussia Dotmund’s star striker Robert Lewandowski, who has been attracting interest from across Europe, according to the Daily
Lewandowski, 24, who scored 38 goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season, is rumoured to want to join arch rivals Bayern Munich, who have already taken attacking midfielder Mario Gotze off their hands. However Dortmund are not willing to sell him Bayern, but may be tempted by a swap deal involving Edin Dzeko.
This is despite selling Carlos Tevez to Juventus, which currently leaves City with just two recognised strikers, Dzeko, and Sergio Aguero. Dzeko indicated last season that he was unhappy with his role at Man City, being mainly used as an impact substitute. He was still the club’s top scorer by the end of the campaign.
City also appear to have lost the battle with Real Madrid to sign Malaga playmaker Isco, something which may have caused them to refocus their attention on bringing Lewandowski to the Etihad, and they will attempt to entice him with wages of £200,000 a week.
Dortmund also may be thinking about cashing in on the Polish international, who is about to enter the final year of his contract, to prevent him from leaving for free at the end of next season.
