Man United are set to do battle with Arsenal in the chase for former Gunners star Cesc Fabregas, according to a report in The
The 26-year-old has insisted he is happy to remain at the Camp Nou, but new United boss David Moyes looks set to test the Catalans’ resolve with a bid of around £40m.
Fabregas has found himself out of favour at the club, and has also been linked with a return to former club Arsenal, who remain known admirers and would be keen to bring the Spain international back to the Emirates should the opportunity present itself.
The Gunners also have first refusal on Fabregas, as per the terms of the deal which saw him switch North London for Barcelona in 2011.
It is believed that the midfield is an area high on Moyes’ priority list in his new job, with Paul Scholes having retired with Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the season.
Barcelona recently signed superstar Neymar, and it is believed this deal will push Fabregas further down the pecking order at his boyhood club.
With United and Arsenal also reportedly involved in a transfer situation with Red Devils striker Wayne Rooney, it could appear that the outcome of that potential deal may well affect who is better able to tempt Fabregas back to the Premier League, as signing the England striker would take a significant chunk out of Arsene Wenger’s much improved transfer kitty this summer.
Fabregas is said to be planning talks with boss Tito Vilanova to thrash out his future in the next few days.
