Man United’s Vidic emerges as shock transfer target for Milan

Man United defender Nemanja Vidic has emerged as a shock transfer target for AC Milan, reports The Mirror.

Milan want Vidic at the San Siro as a partner to Phillipe Mexes, and are under the impression that United want to sign a replacement for Vidic, who suffered an injury-hit season as the Red Devils regained the Premier League crown.

The Serbian managed only 23 appearances last term, and had seen his 2011-12 season ended with a knee injury in December 2011 as well.

Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay is thought to be top of new manager David Moyes’ wishlist as he moves to bolster his defence, and Milan believe they are able to get the best out of 31-year-old Vidic once again.

Vidic arrived at Old Trafford in 2006 from Spartak Moscow for around £7m, and struck up an impressive partnership in the center of United’s defence with Rio Ferdinand. He has featured almost 200 times in the famous red shirt to date, but with the prospect of new manager Moyes having his own defensive regime Milan are confident they can sign the 31-year-old during the summer transfer window.
