Man Utd Transfer Focus – Varela signs with Fabregas and Lewandowski linked

New Manchester United manager David Moyes could make a huge statement with his first genuine signing if the reports regarding Cesc Fabregas and Robert Lewandowski come to fruition. Guillermo Varela joined the Old Trafford club at the end of last week, but he was a target of Sir Alex Ferguson, having spent time on trial during the final few weeks of last season.

The highly-rated Uruguayan full-back clearly impressed during his time in Manchester and has been snapped up for around £1m. He will compete in this summer’s Under-20s World Championships in Turkey, where United supporters will be able to scope out the talent that will be joining their ranks next season.

Moyes will surely look to bring in signings of his own to stamp authority on his new club but will no doubt be aided by the outgoing Ferguson, who was notorious for planning for the future and keeping up the evolution of his squad. A player that Ferguson is known to admire is Borussia Dortmund’s Lewandowski, who seemed set to join newly crowned German champions Bayern Munich.

Dortmund however are loathe to lose the Pole to the same bitter rivals that have just prized the prodigious Mario G
