Man Utd and Man City fighting it out for Thiago

A Manchester derby is threatening to break out over the signature of Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, as the Daily Mirror reports both Manchester United and Manchester City want to sign the Spain youth international.

Thiago was watched by United manager David Moyes during his Everton tenure at the Scot has carried over his interest in the player now he has swapped Goodison Park for Old Trafford. Thiago’s £15m valuation would likely have ended any hope of him moving to Merseyside, but should not be a problem for the champions.

The Mirror claim Barcelona are willing to let Thiago leave for a hefty fee while the player, currently on international duty at the European Under-21 Championships in Israel, is no longer content to be back-up for the likes of Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta at the Camp Nou.

Manchester City are also said to be in the frame for the signature of the Italy-born 22-year-old, son of former Brazil international and Fiorentina defender Mazinho. Thiago also has a brother, Rafinha, contracted to the Catalans, and is a cousin of Benfica forward Rodrigo.
