Mignolet link welcomed by Liverpool stopper Reina

Liverpool goalkeeping ace Pepe Reina has welcomed the arrival of new stopper Simon Mignolet to Anfield as the Belgian looks to complete his move from Sunderland in the coming days.

The Daily Mirror quoted him as saying: “Every team needs competitors, and when it is positive it is more than welcome. I’ll welcome him a lot and anything he needs, I’m here.”

Mignolet, who looks set to swap the North East for Merseyside in a deal worth around £11m, saw his agent Guy Vandermissen, tell press that he is not moving to Anfield to warm the bench: “I know the qualities of Simon and he can cope with any competition it is no problem.”

The Black Cats number one believes joining the Reds will improve his chances of holding down the number one spot for his national team, despite the fact that Liverpool failed to make it into Europe last season. “When you play against Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal every week, this is European football, so what is the problem?” Said Vandermissen.
